Hospital Beds Business Bought Out

Sweden’s Getinge said on Friday it was buying Huntleigh Technology for 409 million pounds to add the British firm’s hospital beds business to its patient-lifting technology.

Getinge President and Chief Executive Johan Malmquist said it would help create a “total bedside management (system) by marrying lifters, support surfaces and beds.”

The deal is the largest ever by the Swedish medical equipment firm, which also supplies hospitals with sterilizers and disinfectors, and sent its shares over 6 percent higher.

The two firms said they had agreed for Getinge to pay 480 pence a share in cash, a 28 percent premium to Huntleigh’s closing share price on Thursday.
