Fort Wayne, Ind. — Medical Informatics Engineering, Inc. (MIE) — a company specializing in electronic health records products and services — is occupying a new corporate headquarters facility at 6302 Constitution Drive in Fort Wayne. MIE spent more than $550,000 to build out the 17,000 square foot space, and invested an additional $150,000 in new equipment. As announced in 3Q 2006, the new location was selected to support current and planned growth, including the addition of another 30 employees over the next two years.
The market for electronic health records (EHR) is expected to grow at a rate of 13.5 percent over the next four years, and by 2015 it will approach $5 billion. While market growth predictions are robust, healthcare provider reluctance to adopt EHR technology is well documented. Chief reasons for this reluctance include costs of technology adoption and concerns with the practice upheaval that often accompanies EHR implementation.
“Thanks to ongoing support from our current client base and successful national expansion efforts, MIE continues to grow,” said MIE co-founder and COO Eric Jones. “Our new location features state-of-the-art technology, training facilities and an environment purpose-built to enhance the implementation and technical support services we offer our client base. In addition, this new space was designed to facilitate ongoing product development and improvement efforts.”
“Based in large part on the vision of Medical Informatics Engineering, our community is leading the country in healthcare IT adoption,” stated Fort Wayne Mayor Graham Richard. “Nearly 65 percent of our medical providers utilize electronic medical records, whereas penetration in the rest of the United States is only about 20 percent. Our advanced telecommunications infrastructure and forward-thinking medical community coupled with the commitment of people like MIE co-founders Doug Horner and Eric Jones is bringing jobs, economic growth and well-deserved attention to Fort Wayne.”
MIE has developed a strategic approach designed to overcome these barriers to adoption. This approach, called Minimally InvasiveTM EHR, is designed to appeal to physicians familiar with the benefits of minimally invasive medical procedures, including increased comfort, accelerated realization of benefits and improved outcomes. The MIE technology architecture was engineered to support a minimally invasive impact on practice bottom lines.
